rishi tea & teaware: organic & fair trade
Besides offering delicious organic loose leaf tea blends like Pu-erh Ginger, Silver Needle Jasmine, Mate Lemongrass & Peach Rooibos; Rishi Tea has amazing teaware accessories, sets and tea storage. I am loving using my new Plum Blosson Teapot in the style of the famous Shudei kyusu-traditional iconic Tokoname style! Rishi Tea also offers my favorite tea, Matcha (Japanese green tea the entire crushed leaf) with all the required tea ceremony accessories like the "Chasen” or bamboo whisk utensil for making Matcha smooth and creamy.

mid-century modern gingerbread house
This mid-century modern gingerbread house that I found on Flickr is just fantastic! They even made adorable mid-century edible furniture by Eames, Noguchi and George Nelson. Not to mention the icing painting ala Jackson Pollock. Bravo! I'd love to see a whole neighborhood of these.

santa cruz organic: haute new teas
Santa Cruz Organic Juices has launched a new line of teas to their product line up.
I am in love. New flavors of Lemon, mango, peppermint and raspberry are delicious! My favorite: drumroll.... peppermint. High in polyphenols (antioxidants) fewer calories than juice, fair trade organic, the company uses renewable energy certificates and solar panels to offset 100% of the energy used to produce their products. All three teas contain a blend of black green and white teas--pesticide free makes me happy! There will always be a special place in my heart and immune system for their Lemon Ginger Echinacea juice though!

pure bar: nutritional treats

Pure Bars are organic, vegan, raw and very delicious. Recently, I fell for the Organic Cherry Cashew bar--although the Apple Cinnamon is a close second. They are all sweetened with agave nectar--a sugar alternative great for diabetics. They fit many of my diet "try toos"--tons of omega 3's, gluten free, dairy free, no refined sugar and no preservatives. Try some.
The creation of the company is an endearing story sparked by Veronica Bosgraaf's support of her six year old daughters decision to become a vegetarian. Veronica wanted her daughter to get all her essential nutrients, so she started experimenting with recipes in her kitchen in Holland Michigan--thus Pure Bars was born. Read More..

vegan pate (mock chopped liver)
yum! She does not mention the quantities, but I received a recipe from a friend and she used 1 medium to large onion, 1/2 pound of mushrooms (can be assorted), 3 T olive oil and one cup of walnuts. It's as easy as pate!

3 cups sparkling wine , chilled *** (see note)
Directions:
1. To the boiling water add the tea bags, 1/2 the raspberries, cinnamon stick, sugar and liquor. Let stand. Remove the cinnamon stick after 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags after 10 minutes.
2. Let the tea mixture come to room temperature. Chill for 2 hours.
3. Strain the tea mixture into a glass pitcher. Strain the watermelon juice through a fine strainer. Add the watermelon juice to the tea and mix well.
4. To serve, fill a tall glass 2/3 with the raspberry/watermelon tea. Top the glass with cold sparking wine. Garnish with raspberries and watermelon cubes.

slow food nation: edible garden at san francisco city hall
Beginning Tuesday, July 1, the lawn in front of San Francisco’s City Hall will undergo a transformation from grass carpet to edible garden, as dozens of Bay Area organizations join together to plant the Slow Food Nation Victory Garden. On Saturday, July 12, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Slow Food Nation founder Alice Waters and more than 100 volunteers will plant the first edible garden in the City’s Civic Center since 1943.
The Victory Garden project takes its name from 20th Century wartime efforts to address food shortages by encouraging citizens to plant gardens on public and private land. In the early 1940s, Victory Gardens were a way for San Francisco residents to participate in developing a secure source of domestic food during a time of war, which was one of the most pressing issues of the day. Victory Gardens sprouted in front yards and vacant lots, and produced 40 percent of the nation’s vegetables. San Francisco’s program became one of the best in the country; Golden Gate Park alone had 250 garden plots.
“The Slow Food Nation Victory Garden is one more way to showcase the City’s tangible commitment to sustainability and, as in the past, confront some of the most challenging issues of our times,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom. “For many urban residents, access to healthy and nutritious food is as important now as it was during the Second World War.”
Slow Food Nation, the largest celebration of American food in history, takes place in San Francisco over Labor Day weekend (August 29 to September 1, 2008). The Slow Food Nation Victory Garden in the Civic Center will serve as a demonstration and education centerpiece leading up to and following the Labor Day weekend event, providing visitors the opportunity to learn about urban food production. Bounty from the garden will be donated to those with limited access to healthy, organic produce through a partnership with local food banks and meal
programs.
Thanks Naomi & Layla

urban farm: young architects program
Built with the help of many volunteers, the annual Young Architects Program installation at P.S. 1 is a lovely urban garden. This year, WORK Architecture was selected for their vision of transforming the angular concrete courtyard into a lush urban farm. Each cardboard barrel contains a different type of produce. Architects Amale Andraos and Dan Wood created a living structure of plants and vegetables out of the inexpensive, recyclable tubes.
