Meuble at Maison Objet: Pierre Cayron

Meuble at Le Bourget is a dedicated furniture fair that is part of the Maison Objet Show featuring unique furniture designs and applications. One of our favorite finds at this small venue was Pierre Cayron's pieces done in a beautiful brushed, dovetailed oak. The dining set and matching armoire had interesting built-in features such as a self-storing ladder and storage underneath all of the dining chairs. Cayron is committed to making all his furniture locally, in Avignon, France. Beautiful!

From wine bottles to furniture

Hand bent and welded stainless steel and kiln-cast glass wine bottles are turned into one of a kind pieces of art at Leelanau Garden Furniture. Each piece starts from scratch, with the entire process taking about a week to complete and father and son team Tom and Ben Kleinfelter will create custom pieces upon request. The unique color variations in the cast glass tops are part of the furniture and bird bath's charm, the Kleinfelter's use reclaimed wine bottles from local wineries in their designs.

Eat Local Challenge - Back for 2008

We posted on this concept last year, and it's back for another summer. One Local Summer is an interesting concept geared toward supporting the local economy that asks each participant to make one all-local meal per week. The unique feature is the weekly post each participant features on their blog showing their meal and their ingredients (which makes for a tasty recipe collection if you ask me!). The organizers, this year it's Farm to Philly, do a weekly trip to each blog to feature the highlights on their website. Rules stipulate that all the ingredients for the meal must come from within a 100 mile radius of your home, so being creative is key. So, if you are looking for a challenge this summer, join them.
