If you are considering making two small reception rooms into one open plan area, or would like to reclaim a bit of that unused hallway or corridor into a useful living area, read on for great, handy tips ...



· Do not knock out any walls down without taking advice from a structural engineer.

· Think if you want to keep any structural divides within the room such as a large archway or sliding or folding doors.

· Try to integrate alcove into your living space at the planning stage of your interior designs for living room/dining room. These can be very useful for storage or if you want to modify or if a change of mood occurs for creating something new in your open plan area. An immense idea would be using an alcove under the stairs would be the ideal spot for a desk, tucked away with the separate function and role of studying, or computer work, confined to a specific area. This space can be transformed as a reading area by adding a comfy sofa it would create quite a silent reading area.

· Consider your natural light sources for an open plan room. You can knock through the wall to create a porthole, window or glass-tiles, to give more light, and a feeling of space to the room.

The Impact of Fall Colors in Interior Decorating

I would never recommend you paint interior walls just to decorate for a season, but so many of our favorite colors come in fall anyway. You can safely paint almost any room in warm tones and it works all year round. Paint a single wall in orange or another bright fall color and leave the rest white for strong contrast.

Bold is Beautiful - Go for Orange & White!

Orange is a bold color, but look at the contrast you get when you paint just a single wall in a room in a very bold primary color and leave the rest of the room white? It is striking and, again, will work well all year. Other ‘bold’ fall colors that work well as wall paint colors include cinnamon, cranberry and burgundy.

Think contrast!

Blend or contrast colors, generally using no more than two or three colors in a room, a cranberry wall with white chair rail looks great but four cranberry walls and no trim will seem too stark.

Though, you can get away with a little color addition to greatly affect the overall look of a room. So, you can add red, yellow or orange to a room that otherwise has none of these colors, creating a central point in one area or splashing the accent color in several places throughout the room.
