More great lighting designs...

...that make CFLs look really good! Propellor Design Studio in Canada has created Calvino - a grouping of seven pendant lights made of Teragren bamboo, finished in a walnut oil and using compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). The company is also working toward LEED certification for the lights, which makes the modern, pleasing design even more exciting! The also have products made from ecoresin (such as the Stratus shown here) and other eco-friendly designs that are made specifically for CFLs, so feel free to browse!

Heimtextil - Live Coverage

Heimtex is always our first show of the new year, we look to it for inspiration and a fresh perspective on trends, design and innovation. As always, it doesn't disappoint! Even though it is only our first day here in Frankfurt (jet lag, jet lag!) we have found some great things to post to start tracking trends for the new year. A common theme that continues to increase in importance is the presence of organic, natural and fair trade. What's new this year is the shift in materials used to create a sustainable product. For example, did you know that soy is cheaper and more absorbent than cotton? And we love how the concept of organic is becoming a design motif worked right into the product. Here are some examples:

Speltex had a plush pile in organic cotton that looked like something to cozy up to.
Vossen had a complete line of organic cotton - we love the kraft packaging and the incorporation of the word "organics" into the actual product:Jules Clarysse's line of organic and sustainable soy towels, which have been told is more absorbent than cotton or bamboo, were breathtaking in soft, natural hues.Santens Bio Cotton is created for "respect for the environment, caring for your health and quality of life". Bio Cotton is a blend of bamboo and cotton available in towels, bath mats and accessories and even a mini-bamboo line for babies and children.
