Entertaining at Home
With the economy continuing to slow and the holiday season quickly approaching, many consumers are looking to entertain at home. Whether it's a cocktail party, holiday dinner or family festivities, products that help make entertaining at home easy and stylish are on the rise. At the High Point Markets Howard Miller debuted new bars and entertaining units in the Ty Pennington Line and under the Howard Miller brand name. Our favorites included the exotic woods and storage solutions of the new Ty Pennington products and the small space solutions in the Howard Miller line.

Eco-conscious and sustainable statements were key and seen in many applications across the markets this season. Century mixed up the trends, blending natural materials with sleek metals and gorgeous finishes. A few highlights include an organic line with cork upholstered furniture pieces using soy foam and sustainable and reclaimed woods. .JPG)
Large slabs of Chumcha woods (from the Mahogany family) were used as tabletops with high gloss finishes and a modern stainless steel base. .JPG)

High Point Markets: Stunning Neutrals at Barbara Barry
All shades and hues of neutral color palettes were on the rise at the High Point Markets. One showroom creating a haven of ethereal color and elegant design was Barbara Barry. Soft camel tones, egg shell whites, muted greens and dusted golds were a comforting and casual approach to this season's designs. Some of our favorites:

CABOOM East: Cisco Brothers
We're currently covering the High Point Markets in North Carolina and while the mood here is a little subdued and the over all attendance down a bit, there are a few bright spots. Notably, CABOOM East - a design show for sustainable products, up and coming designers and Cisco Brothers - located a shuttle van's distance from the main downtown area.

Cisco Brothers took a gamble and moved their showroom into an empty mill building, which they working on achieving LEED certification for, and set up shop. Their efforts were well worth it as their commitment to sustainable furniture pieces, organic fabrics, reclaimed woods and innovative designs were one of our highlights of market. Softened color palettes, smaller sized pieces and comforting shapes were a strong story for them, so look for more posts on Cisco Brothers and a detailed post on the innovated at CABOOM East in the next few days. Until there, we are heading back to market looking for more inspiration to share.

Rowe Furniture's sustainable furniture line - Eco-Rowe - was another source of eco-friendly furniture solutions.
From their 137 different choices of natural fiber fabrics, FSC woods, EcoDown and EcoCore inner construction options, Rowe didn't miss a beat. Even their display demonstrated the beauty of nature as an overall theme with soft colors, natural woods and touches of lush botanicals.

Little "Mixter Max" Furniture for Boys!
After last fall's Highpoint we rave about Powell's Little Miss Matched line of furniture with it's interchangeable panels and fun designs (click here for the fall post). And, now we are wowed by the "Mixter Max" line for boys.
Innovative design in boys furniture is hard to come by and the keyhole system that allows the child to add or change panels and surfaces is a great solution. We love the writable surfaces that come with non- toxic erasable markers from Crayola. Special attachable features include cup holders, basketball hoops, trash cans, hooks, media shelves and changeable panels. The bunk bed features a folding desk that turns into an extra bed for sleepovers. Great news in the world of furniture designed for boys!!

Metallic Leather at Highpoint
Leather on furniture is not a new concept, but this idea of adding a metallic treatment really is a great way to update a basic! These gunmetal silvers and deep burnished gold reinvigorated traditional furniture pieces at the Natuzzi showroom.

Celebrity Sightings at Highpoint
There seem to be more and more celebrity sightings at Highpoint these days and the Howard Miller showroom was no exception this year. They launched their new Ty Pennington storage solutions line, and of course, Ty was on hand to meet and greet.
However, the real stars of the room were the furniture pieces themselves! The concept of pull out bulletin boards, ironing boards, craft tables along with all of the embedded charging stations and unique storage features were just delightful! Small touches, such as the ribbon organizer rod, the kitchen storage piece and the revolving shelves - all available in many choices of wood finishes and door options - make this line a true solution.
