Earth Day Tip #3

Visit the Smithsonian's special microsite "EcoCenter" devoted to unique Earth Day interviews, stories and easy to do tips to reduce your environmental impact. One easy solution? Conserve a little more water. Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth, stop rinsing the dishes before loading them into the dishwasher (it really will take care of all that stuck on mess!) and reuse graywater from laundry, dehumidifiers and other areas of your home to water grass or flowers.

Visit the Smithsonian site to learn a little more about how bamboo is changing the world of product design, how Ed Bagely, Jr. remains one of the greenest guys in Hollywood, how fuel choices are changing our landscape and how to free yourself of plastics. Happy Earth Day! Read More..

Earth Day Tip #2

Don't throw it away! When you are cleaning that garage, basement or closet during your spring cleaning, please don't throw your discarded items into the trash bin. Of course, places such as the Goodwill or Salvation Army will take them, but if you aren't close to a location or just would prefer to stay at home, there are options! FreeCycle is a great reuse site organized by community - simply log on, create an account and post items you want to get rid of (or items you might need). It's so easy! One person's trash is really another person's treasure. Many FreeCyclers create quilts and blankets from discarded clothing, fix appliances and lawn mowers using parts from old items, and find materials for craft, landscaping and home improvement projects on this site - all for free! And, this keeps many, many usable treasures out of the landfill. FreeCycle has become so popular - there are sites devoted to showcasing your found FreeCycle Treasures! Happy Earth Day! Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day Tip #1:
Change one incandescent light bulb over to a CFL model - they use one-fourth of the energy of a traditional bulb and will last years longer! The Energy Star website has a Light Guide that makes finding the right bulb for each room in your house a very simple process!
