Drake Landing Solar Community (DLSC) in Okotoks, Canada - a suburb of beautiful Calgary - is the first of it's kind in North America.
DLSC is heated by a district system designed to store abundant solar energy underground during the summer months and distribute the energy to each home for space heating needs during winter months. 90% of residential heating needs are met by this system resulting in a reduction of 5 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per house, per year. 
Solar energy as an alternative for power in home and outdoor decor continues to increase as designs incorporate more attractive features and attributes. The Sun Jar recreates the sentimental look of the jam jar, with a twist. The jar, left on a sunny windowsill during the day, provides portable light for 5 hours at night.
The Sky solar light by Luceplan, designed by Alfredo Haberli, utilizes the latest in photovoltaic cells to capture sunlight during the day to power the architecturally beautiful light at night. Sky is available in two heights as well as a wall/ceiling model.
