Sustainable Home Design Becomes Reality TV

Labor Day has passed, the kids are back in school, so what's left to do but dive into the reality TV shows sure to be found on every network this fall? OK, so not the gossipy, trivial shows featuring bickering couples or teen drama, but something more substantial. If you're looking for a reality show based on architecture and sustainable home design, you might want to check out Architecture School. Picked up by the Sundance Channel and running through October 2nd, the show features 12 architecture students from Tulane that have been paired up with URBANbuild and Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans to construct a low-cost sustainable home for a family returning to the city. The home they're building is a two-story, 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom house that features Structural Insulated Panels, or SIPs, and a unique, modern design and color story perfect for the Big Easy.
