Today's installment of Behind the Scenes features Pippin Home Designs, owned by Jenny Pippin, AIBD. In this post we will be featuring our insights on Jenny's Project: Live Green - the renovation of her North Carolina home into a green and sustainable showcase where she lives and works. Tomorrow, Jenny Pippin will be our first guest blogger, offering her own insights and approach to designing and living green.
Rather than removing the existing home located on her lakefront property, the home was renovated and expanded upon with steel beam construction, Icynene insulation, energy efficient windows, solar panels and a metal roof. Energy efficient appliances, heating and cooling systems, indoor air quality control and sustainable cabinets, flooring and furniture complete the green package. The resulting home is a picture of green living with Jenny's personal style preference shining through with a custom made metal balcony, rounded staircases and unique furnishings and vibrant paint choices. To further the benefit of her green home, she and her design team work from a studio inside the home, reducing travel emissions. Here are some great before and after photos of the exterior of the home - and stop by the blog tomorrow for some gorgeous "green" interior photos and to read Jenny's post on how the green design of a home should reflect your own personal style while remaining eco-friendly.
